Special Women to Have Won the Nobel Prize with Their Remarkable Contributions

Elinor Ostrom

American political economist Elinor Ostrom broke new ground as a researcher when she revealed that ordinary citizens can also create guidelines for a sustainable lifestyle and fair management of resources. The political guru was also associated with the development of the New Institutional Economics and the growth of the political economy.

Ostrom’s analysis and economic governance earned her a Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, an award she shared with Oliver E. Williamson in 2009. The economist became the first woman to ever win a Nobel Prize in Economics. She’s also authored and published many books, including “The Samaritan’s Dilemma: The Political Economy of Development Aid.”
