Special Women to Have Won the Nobel Prize with Their Remarkable Contributions

The Nobel committee recognized Polish poet and essayist Wislawa Szymborska for her poetic writings that carried through “ironic precision” messages. The Prowent-born writer, who largely lived her life in Krakow until her death in 2012 and studied Polish literature, received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1996.

Although her poem “Niektórzy lubią poezję” (“Some Like Poetry”), talks of probably two people in a thousand liking poetry, her books have returned high sales similar to those of prominent prose publishers. Szymborska, who was also a translator, focused on bringing to light the biological and historical context of human reality fragments in her publications, which have been translated into many languages.
