Here are Some of the Most Iconic Grammy Moments of All Time

1969: Finally, On-Air!

By 1969, the Grammys had come a long way, but it was yet to be televised. However, that year brought with it the first on-air presentation of the Grammys on March 12, 1969. The awards recognized the musical achievements of the past year, rewarding artists such as Pierre Boulez, Bill Cosby, and Mason Williams.

The awards show was held normally, only this time the winner for the Record of the Year was not announced until during “The Best on Record” special nearly two months later. All five nominees were made to record acceptance speeches to keep the winner secret, and the appropriate tape was slotted in just an hour before the announcement.
