Here are Some of the Most Iconic Grammy Moments of All Time

1971: Live for the First Time

1971 was another special year for the Grammys. During the 13th annual Grammy Awards, ABC took credit for the first-ever live telecast. The accomplishments of musicians in 1970 were recognized in the 90-minute special broadcast live from the Hollywood Palladium. ABC would only air the Awards twice before CBS took over.

Among the artists recognized were Elton John, John Lenon, and Ray Stevens. Andy Williams hosted the awards with the help of several presenters, including John Wayne. The awards also marked the end of the pre-recorded “The Best on Record” and the bi-coastal awards dinners, which were part of the award ceremony since the inaugural awards.
