1968: The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll Arrives

Elvis Presley was an American singer and actor regarded as one of the most significant figures in the 20th-century entertainment industry. His energized performances and provocative style earned him great success in the late ’50s and early ’60s. However, it was not his hip-breaking hits that earned him his first ever Grammys.

Despite nominations since the second Grammy Awards, he only won his first Grammy in 1968 for Best Sacred Performance for his version of “How Great Thou Art.” This was an incredible feat, especially for someone who drove a delivery truck before joining music, but his successes did not stop there.
