Sweet Summer Days – 1955

The French woman in the picture was photographed in 1955 while catching a break from the sun and drinking a refreshing beverage. According to Glamour, the bikini was introduced in the ’40s but only became popular and commonly used in the United States during the ’60s. By the ’70s, it was mainstream and was even famously worn by Ursula Andress in the “Dr. No” movie.

As usual in the 20th century, the French were at the forefront of fashion, and French women were already rocking bikinis on the beach in 1955. Even Mr. Bean and John Cena look impressed in the back!
