The Gas Station Attendant – Circa 1960

Gas station attendants were people who worked at gas stations and did all the work for the drivers. While pumping gas into our cars isn’t that hard, it sure would’ve been nice to count on the support of these friendly fellows at the gas station.

Gas station attendants are still around, and they’re very common in countries such as Finland and Brazil. Not in the United States, though. Due to the pressure of service station lobbyists, gas station attendants were made illegal in some American states. Back in the ’60s, they worked for tips and could perform other automobile-related functions, such as checking the pressure of tires.
