Catch a Flight? Gollum Would Rather Catch a Fish!
This immaculate sculpture depicts ‘Gollum’ trying to catch some fish, and from the intricate details, it almost feels like you’re in the stream with him. Or at least, you’d have felt that way if you were around in 2012 when Wellington Airport in New Zealand installed the 13-meter-long sculpture.
The installation paid homage to Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” which was filmed in New Zealand and released that year. And the airport took it a step further by renaming the terminal “The Middle of Middle-earth.” You can tell the Tolkien fandom arrived in droves to marvel at one of J.R.R. Tolkien’s most iconic characters.
