Victoria’s Secret is niet altijd het toonaangevende merk geweest dat het op vandaag is. Toen ze in 1989 nog een relatief kleine speler waren, boden ze Frederique van der Wal een contract aan en mocht ze poseren in sexy lingerie. Uiteindelijk bleek dit een winnende keuze te zijn voor beide partijen, want Victoria’s Secret groeide uit tot de grootheid die ze nu zijn en van der Wal werd opgemerkt door Revlon, Guess en MCI, en mocht ze ook honderden covers van tijdschriften, waaronder Vogue en Cosmopolitan sieren met haar foto. Ze was te zien in tal van films, maar werd ook als onderneemster bekend met de lancering van haar eigen bloemenmerk en een eigen lijn van badkledij en lingerie.
