Special Women to Have Won the Nobel Prize with Their Remarkable Contributions

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf made history in 2006 when she became the first woman in Africa to be elected as a president. From 2006 to 2018, she served as the 24th president of Liberia to ever be elected and was a brave peace activist.

She was re-elected in 2011, and it was in the same year that Sirleaf was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts in bringing women together and bringing peace during Liberia’s Second Civil War, which ended in 2003. She published her memoir, “This Child Will Be Great: Memoir of a Remarkable Life by Africa’s First Woman President” in 2010.
