Special Women to Have Won the Nobel Prize with Their Remarkable Contributions

Betty Williams

Born to a Catholic mother and a Protestant father, Betty Williams became a religious tolerance advocate and co-founded North Ireland’s Community for Peace People with Mairead Maguire and Ciaran McKeown. She co-received the 1976 Nobel Peace Prize with Maguire for their efforts towards promoting the peaceful resolution of the Troubles in her home country.

The late Williams actually witnessed the unfortunate and gruesome murder of Maguire’s sister’s three children, which made her share the dream of starting a peace organization. With children’s affairs at heart, she lectured far and wide on topics about children’s rights, inter-cultural and inter-faith understanding, peace, anti-extremism, and education.
