From Shakespeare to Chocolate Bars: Check These 45 Treasures That Britain Gifted the World

The Greenwich Mean Time

London takes pride in the fact that their Greenwich Mean Time, or the ever-famous GMT, started in their place. It is the mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, calculated by the time the sun crosses the location meridian and is at its highest point.

The concept first came to life in 1847 and was eventually globally adopted in 1884. In simple words, GMT is the time of the day anywhere in the world relates to British time. There have also been attempts to rename it into UTC, which stands for co-ordinate universal time, but people have considered GMT as the real deal.
