Prison Break: Meet the Alcatraz Inmates Who Flew into Thin Air, Never to Be Seen Again!

A Real Solitary Confinement Cell

A cell used for imprisonment used to look like this. There was only a small metallic bed, a sink, and a toilet, and the prisoners were left alone in the dark as punishment. The lights were provided during mealtimes. Furthermore, Alcatraz served as a military station before being converted into a federal prison.

For instance, in 1902, when the picture was taken, women and officers were seated along the dock. Army prisoners in 1902 had to wait while preparing for their duties. Before it became a federal prison, this image of the Rock was shot when it served as a military fortification also.
