Vlak voordat wereldwijd de pandemie uitbrak, kocht Carice van Houten voor een paar miljoen een optrekje in Amstelveen, met haar partner Guy Pearce. Tijdens de lockdown had ze meer dan tijd genoeg om van het pand een gezellige thuis te maken. De actrice die we onder andere kennen van Zwartboek, Repo Men en Game of Thrones zocht een plaatsje om haar zoon op te voeden en hem de kans te geven om niet de hele tijd de wereld te moeten rondreizen voor de carrière van zijn ouders. Samen met een interieurontwerper gaf ze het hele huis een make-over en zorgde ze ervoor dat het pand van meer dan 2,2 miljoen euro, waarvoor ze trouwens geen hypotheek nodig had, ook naar waarde kon geschat worden. Het gaf haar de gelegenheid om de 8 kamers en 270 vierkante meter bewoonbare oppervlakte van haar eigen stijl te voorzien.
