2001: Elton and Eminem

In 2001, there was no artist hotter or more controversial than Eminem. At the beginning of his career, his acclaimed album, “The Marshall Mathers LP,” was much talked about in 2000 and had received plenty of criticism for lyrics deemed homophobic and misogynistic.

Despite the criticism, the album had been slated for various awards at the Grammys, and there was a lot of talk about what role Eminem would play in the awards. During the awards, he was joined on stage by Elton John for a rendition of the hit, “Stan,” and it’s a duet that will be talked about for decades.
