1988: A Return to New York

For the first time in a long seven-year stint, the Grammys were held in New York. This was in recognition of the 30th annual ceremony for the awards, which was a huge milestone. The three-hour program was held at Radio City Music Hall and hosted by Billy Crystal, who started with the timely joke, “This is a historic building because it’s the only building Donald Trump doesn’t own… yet.”

Many of the performances and awards that night were also by New York-based artists. George Benson performed a cover of “On Broadway,” and Billy Joel performed “New York State of Mind.”
