1982: John Lennon’s Posthumous Grammy

The Grammys have always been renowned for their sense of humor, especially because of the chosen presenters. However, there have been some emotional and heartwarming Grammys over the years, and the 24th annual awards held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles in 1982 stand out.

Quincy Jones was the talk of the show after winning five Grammys, but he was quickly eclipsed by the much-coveted Album of the Year Award. The award went to the late John Lennon for the album “Double Fantasy,” which he wrote with his wife, Yoko Ono. Ono and her son, Sean, received a standing ovation as they were presented with the award.
