The mid-’60s marked the beginning of David Steel’s long career as a Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom. He must have amassed a considerable fortune throughout his long political tenure since he is among the oldest members in office, as of 2022. He continued to serve as a representative of the House of Lords until his withdrawal and departure in 2020.

Steel has also been honored with multiple honorary doctorates from British universities for his political contributions. He spent 32 years (1965 to 1997) as a representative for the United Kingdom in Parliament. Furthermore, from 1999 to 2003, he represented Scotland in that body.
