What the Heck Is That? Ordinary Things That Look Insane Microscopic!

Whiteboard Erasers Are a Horror Scene

A whiteboard eraser looks pretty harmless on the surface, but closely examined, it turns into a chaotic sponge party. The felt or foam is packed with twisty fibers and crater-like gaps that trap more than just dry-erase ink. There are smudges of pigment, leftover skin cells, and maybe a snack crumb or two—it’s not wrong to call it a micro junkyard.

The fibers don’t actually erase anything; they just collect and smear until the ink gets rubbed loose. Over time, those tightly woven surfaces become layered with so much gunk it’s a wonder they still work. It’s not glamorous, but at least it gets the job done.
