What the Heck Is That? Ordinary Things That Look Insane Microscopic!

Toothbrush Bristles or Plastic Haystacks?

A toothbrush looks tidy on the counter, but when closely examined, those bristles go wild. What may seem like smooth, straight strands are uneven, frayed plastic spikes—especially after a few weeks of scrubbing. The ends split and curl, sometimes holding onto leftover toothpaste, plaque, and maybe a mystery crumb from last night’s dinner.

There are nicks and scratches to show just how much action those bristles see twice a day. Even the cleanest brush starts to resemble a tiny, chaotic haystack over time. It still does the job, but up close, it’s clear why dentists suggest swapping it out every few months.
