Velcro’s Hook-And-Loop Jungle
Velcro might seem simple, but zoom in closely, and it turns into a tiny mechanical forest. One side is packed with hundreds of little hooks that curve just enough to latch on. The other side looks like a soft, tangled thicket of loops—ready to catch whatever comes close. Press them together, and the hooks grab the loops like they’ve got somewhere to be.
It’s a physical connection, not adhesive, which is why it sticks with that oddly satisfying ripping sound. Burrs from plants inspire the system, and it’s weirdly effective. Zoomed in, Velcro becomes less like a fastener and more like functional chaos.
