These Veteran Superstars Are Refusing to Retire, And Are Instead Still Making Blockbusters And Hits
Jane Seymour – Age 70
Did you know that there was a British princess Named Jane Seymour? OF course not! That’s because an actress is going by the same name, and she’s made quite the impact. She got a massive push when she played psychic Bond girl Solitare in the 1973 film “Live and Let Die.”
While she has never won an Oscar, she has won an Emmy and two Golden Globes in her career. One of those Golden Globes was for her iconic role in the popular ’90s series “Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.” She remains active and has had a role in a 2021 episode of the series “B Positive.”
Thelma Barlow – Age 92
Retirement seems to be the top priority for Thelma Barlow. It’s been over two decades since she starred as mavis Wilton in “Coronation Street,” and she seems completely uninterested in coming back, having turned down numerous requests to return to the role.

She said this much in a 2020 interview that as much as she has been asked, she doesn’t think she can play the role anymore. She has also appeared in “Doctor Who” and “Dinnerladies,” but after a small speaking role in 2016’s “Florence Foster Jenkins,” she has been quiet. She did feature in a 2021 special called “Coronation Street Icons.”
Sue Nicholls – Age 77
Sue Nicholls has had a pretty eventful career. She is famous for a host of different roles in the British TV industry, including “Crossroads,” “The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin,” and “Rentaghost.” She is also well known for her two separate stints on the popular soap “Coronation Street” and still appeared in 2021.

She is so popular on “Corrie” that she’s won multiple awards for her role as Audrey. These include s British Soap Award for Best Comedy Performance and a British Soap Award for Best Dramatic Performance. In 2019 she was also awarded an Outstanding Achievement Award.
Helen Worth – Age 70
Coronation Street has been around for a long time. So when someone is the third longest-serving cast member on the soap, you know she’s been around for a long time too. That person is Helen Worth, and she has been on the iconic show playing Gail Platt for nearly five decades as of 2021.

She also won awards for her work. This includes an Outstanding Achievement Award at the British Soap Awards and the unofficial award as the most married character on the soap, alongside Simon Gregson, who plays Steve McDonald, also holding a similar record. One of the men she married was even a serial killer.
Mel Brooks – Age 95
Mel Brooks is a real American. For the love of his country, he joined the army to fight in World War II. But after representing his country in the great war, he decided to do something for himself, which was to follow his passion… Music.

He did this by starting as a drummer and pianist on the New York club scene. He also worked on his writing and created some iconic films in the process. These include “The Story Of The World pt1,” “Young Frankenstein,” “Spaceball,” and “Robin Hood: Men In Tights.” He also does voice acting and in 2020 did this on the series “Grandma for President.”
Malcolm McDowell – Age 78
Malcolm McDowell is one of the most influential actors of his generation and had a notable period during the ’70s. His most famous role was as the delinquent Alex DeLarge in the timeless classic “A Clockwork Orange.” He also had a role in 1979’s “Time After Time.”

He has also done voice acting, working on several projects. This includes the adult swim series “Metalocalypse” and video games such as “Fallout 3,” “God of War III,” and “Call of Duty: Black Ops III.” He hasn’t won many awards but does have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2021 he had a role in the film “She Will.”
Susan Boyle – Age 60
Susan Boyle sent the entire United Kingdom into a frenzy when she entered Britain’s Got Talent. She wowed the audience with her rendition of the Les Misérables song, “I Dreamed a Dream,” and was destined for a massive career in music. She didn’t even have to win the competition to achieve this.

She released her album in 2009, and it sold like hotcakes, becoming the highest-selling debut album in British history. She has since released a further seven albums, sold 19 million albums, and earned two Grammy nominations. In 2020 she appeared in an episode of “Loose Women.”
Leigh Lawson – Age 76
Leigh Lawson is famous for many reasons. One of those reasons is for being married to iconic supermodel Twiggy. The other is for being an impressive actor who has starred in numerous TV shows, films, and stage productions. In fact, for him, it all started n stage.

He directed several projects in the West End and Broadway and worked with the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company. Some of his notable roles include films like “Disraeli” and “Absolutely Fabulous,” where he and Twiggy appeared as themselves. In 2014 he appeared in a mini-series called “The Red Tent.”
Helen Mirren – Age 76
There are triple crown winners, and then there are triple crown masters. Helen Mirren falls in the latter. This is because she is the only person to have won both the American Triple Crown (Oscar, Emmy Award, and Tony Award) and the British Triple Crown (BAFTA Film Awards, the BAFTA Television Awards, and the Laurence Olivier Awards).

These awards were earned thanks to impressive performances in films like “The Queen” and “Gosford Park.” But she is also noted for her performances in TV shows like “Prime Suspect” and “Elizabeth I” and in 2021 had a role in “F9: The Fast Saga.”
Maggie Smith – Age 86
Maggie Smith has been in the acting industry since the ’50s. But to modern audiences, she will go down as Transfiguration Professor Minerva McGonagall, who taught Harry Potter and his band of friends the Wingardium Leviosa incantation. But of course, that isn’t the only thing she’s done since 1952.

Her acting CV includes over 60 movies and 70 stage theater productions. These include “Death on the Nile,” an Agatha Christie adaptation, and the 1981 version of “Clash of the Titans.” She has also starred in the series and film version of “Downton Abbey” and has won two Oscars. She also has a role in the 2021 film “A Boy Called Christmas.”
Barbara Knox – Age 88
What was supposed to be a cameo appearance for Barbara Knox in Coronation Street turned into a career-long role for the actress? Rita Tanner was never meant to be a permanent character in “Coronations Street” when she appeared in 1964. But Knox ensured she made a lasting impression, and by 1972 she was a regular cast member.

She eventually became a staple on the soap and is regarded as one of the longest-serving soap opera actresses in the world. She is the second longest-serving cast member on Coronation Street behind William Roach, who starred in every episode since the first one. In 2021 she was still starring as Tanner.
William Roache – Age 89
William Roach has been in the TV industry for over six decades. He has spent most of that time playing Ken Barlow in the long-running British soap opera “Coronation Street.” His time on the soap has seen him go into “The Guinness Book of World Records” as the longest-serving Make TV actor for a single character.

Although he hasn’t starred in anything other than “Corrie,” he has appeared in other shows. These include appearances on “Who Do You Think You Are?” and “Piers Morgan’s Life Stories.” His award cabinet has also been filled with notable awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Soap Awards.
Richard Branson – Age 71
Richard Branson is a prime example of gaining success through failing forward. Now the founder of the Virgin Group Ltd., he claims to have failed with several projects before buying a record store, which became Virgin Records, and later Virgin Megastore. This has since expanded into several other industries.

This includes an airline, gyms, mobile network, and banking, among notable other projects. Branson is also renowned for his philanthropy and for chasing records, with him breaking the record in traversing the Altlantic by boat and by air balloon. In 2021 he became the first person to take his rocket into space.
Kate Silverton – Age 51
Kate Silverton is a well-known British journalist who has hosted several shows on the BBC. Some of her notable jobs include being the co-host of “BBC World at One.” She also fills in on “BBC News Channel” and “BBC World News” among others.

She worked in a bank while waiting for her big break in journalism, and since getting that break has developed a bit of celebrity. This celebrity has also led to her being invited to show like “Strictly Come Dancing” and also hosted “Big Cat Diary.” In 2021 she appeared in an episode of “Loose Women.”
Charles Shaughnessy – Age 66
Remember “The Nanny?” The show where Fran Drescher becomes the nanny to a wealthy single man and his children? Well, Charles Shaughnessy is the actor who played the rich man. He starred in the sitcom from 1993 to 1999 when it ended but returned to the role in Drescher’s spinoff sitcom “Living with Fran,” which ran for two seasons.

He is also famous for making long-running soap “Days of Our Lives” popular with ’80s teens when he played Shane Donovan and was one half of a super couple with Patsy Pease’s Kimberly Brady. In 2021 he had a role in another long-running American soap called “General Hospital.”
Angela Lansbury – Age 95
Angela Lansbury is famous for playing amateur sleuth and full-time author Jessica Fletcher in “Murder She Wrote.” The show was so popular that Lansbury was in the role for 12 years, starting in 1984 and ending in 1996. But she has also had other notable roles.

These include the 1963 version of “The Manchurian Candidate.” She has also been nominated for two Oscars and has a Golden Globe win under her belt too. She had a role in 2018’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” and in 2021, she was featured in a documentary called “Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age.”
Jilly Johnson – Age 68
Born Jilly Gosden in 1953, Jilly Johnson came to prominence in the ’70s as a Page 3 model. That’s not her only claim to fame, though, as she also tried her hand at singing and acting. She was part of the Blonde on Blonde girl group and had a cameo in the British film “The Golden Lady.”

Johnson has since stayed out of the spotlight, though, focusing on raising her grandchildren instead. According to The Sun, she is married to CEO Ashley Brolin. She’s made brief comebacks in the past and notably appeared in the 2020 TV documentary “Page Three.”
Robbie Coltrane – Age 71
Besides being renowned as Rubeus Hagrid, the man who Saved Harry Potter from his cruel aunt and uncle, he is also famous for being an ally of James bond. He played Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky, a former KGB operative turned mob boss in the Bond films “GoldenEye” and “The World Is Not Enough.”

He is also noted for teaming with Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, and Emma Thompson in the sketch comedy show “Alfresco.” He also starred alongside Emma Thompson in the mini-series “Tutti Frutti,” which earned him a British Academy Television Award for Best Actor. In 2020 he appeared as Orson Welles in “Urban Myths.”
Ruth Langsford – Age 61
Ruth Langsforth is a household name in the UK. She is also one of the busiest people on British TV and has had longstanding stints presenting several British TV shows, including one on “This Morning.” Alongside this role, she also hosted the show “Gift Wrapped.”

Running concurrently with her work on “This Morning,” she also hosts the show “How the Other Half Lives” as well as her show “Ruth Langsford’s Fashion Edit.” Besides all of this, she still makes time for appearances on “Loose Women.” She also participated in “Strictly Come Dancing.” She is also a brand ambassador for Playtex and Optegra’s Clarivu refractive lens exchange procedure.
Susan Tully – Age 53
Susan Tully is a versatile actress who has evolved her character type over the years. She initially broke out as a rebellious teenager in the drama series “Grange Hill.” But she became a hit when she played single mother Michelle Fowler in “Eastenders.” She was one of the original characters and stayed on the soap for ten years.

But she soon quit acting in favor of a more behind-the-scenes role. She decided to go into directing and producing and sat in the high chair for several productions. These include an episode of “Eastenders” and a 2020 project called “Strike Lethal White.”
Pattie Boyd – Age 77
Pattie Boyd is one of the most iconic models of the ’60s era. Alongside Jean Shrimpton, she was responsible for some of the most popular looks of the era and epitomized the image of a woman in that period. She is also noted for her marriages to various prominent Musicians.

These include George Harrison, lead guitarist for The Beatles, and Eric Clapton, Harrison’s friend and famous for his work with The Yardbirds and Cream. As a model, she did fashion spreads for Vogue, Vanity Fair, Elle, and newspapers The Daily Telegraph and The Times. In 2020 she appeared in a documentary called “Meeting the Beatles in India.”
Maxine Peake – 47
Maxine Peake lists both actress and narrator as her professions. But she is best known for the former, thanks to her work on British shows like “Dinnerladies,” playing Twinkle, and in “Silk,” playing Martha Costello. She also had a significant role in the original UK version of “Shameless” as Veronica Ball.

She is also remembered for her role in the episode of “Black Mirror” titled “Metalhead” and “The Village.” She didn’t only do TV, though, and gained acclaim for her part in the revered TV film “See No Evil: The Moors Murders,” playing serial killer “Myra Hindley,” In 2021, she appeared in a short film called “Where We Used to Meet.”
John Cleese – Age 81
John Cleese is no slouch. He is renowned in British TV for being the founder of the Monty Python comedy group and its iconic show, “Monty Python’s Flying Circus.” He also made his mark on Hollywood with roles in major films like “A Fish Called Wanda,” opposite Kevin Kline and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Over and above this, he co-wrote the comedy series “Fawlty Towers” with his wife, Connie Booth. The show won Cleese a BAFTA for Best Entertainment Performance and topped the list of 100 Greatest British Television Programmes created by the British Film Institute. In 2020 he had a role in the film “The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee.”
Timothy West – Age 86
Timothy West is a versatile performer who has worked on stage and in films and doing presenting work. He is also so well respected that he has had stints on “Coronation Street” and “EastEnders.” He also had a notable role as the original Geoffrey Adams in the sitcom “Not Going Out.”

For his talent and work, he was awarded the CBE in 1984 and has been busy throughout his five-decade career. He has put in impressive performances in films like “Cry Freedom” “The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc.” He also hosts a travel show with his wife Prunella Scales called “Great Canal Journeys.”

Carol Kirkwood has appeared on our screens as a weather presenter, trained by the Met Office, she was employed by the BBC on “The Breakfast Show”. She has also strutted her stuff on BBC One’s “Strictly Come Dancing,” where she finished in 10th place.

However, we haven’t heard much from her in 2022, and we wondered why especially because the Scottish TV personality appears to be much loved, with all kinds of people wishing they could have seen her. Turns out, Kirkwood was in a bad motorbike accident and had a horrific injury to boot.
Helen Fospero – Age 55
TV host Helen Fospero hails from England and has worked for shows such as “GMTV,” Lorraine,” and “Daybreak.” In 2022, she is currently working for BBC as a reporter on the show “Watchdog” and “The One Show”. It is amazing how far one can go by reading words off a prompter with some personality!

Like many celebrities, Helen is not a one-trick worker, and she pours a good deal of her time into her charitable foundations. In 2022, she made an urgent appeal for people to donate to Barnardo’s, a children’s home for the disadvantaged.
Kate Garraway – Age 54
Kathryn Mary Draper Garraway, MBE, who simply goes by Kate Garraway, is a broadcaster and journalist. She has captured our hearts for the love she still has for her dreadfully ill husband, Derek Draper.

However, she has landed herself in a wee bit of hot water in January 2022 because she wasn’t able to pronounce the name of one of her guests, Dr. Shola Mos-Shogbamimu. It probably did not help that they were going to talk about cancel culture. Mos-Shogbamimu insisted that she be introduced correctly, and Garraway eventually got it.
Vanessa Feltz – Age 59
TV personality, journalist, and broadcaster Vanessa Felts has appeared in a variety of shows from “The Big Breakfast” to “The Wright Stuff” to “Celebrity Big Brother” and “Strictly Come Dancing,” among many others. She has been appearing “This Morning” on ITV since 2006, and these days, she hosts the Breakfast Show on BBC Radio London and the early morning radio show on BBC Radio 2.

She has been in the game since the ’80s, when she began as a female columnist for The Jewish Chronicle before moving on to Daily Mirror. She worked her way up from there and is still going very well in their chosen field.
Bill Ward – Age 73
Bill Ward is renowned as part of the legendary Rhythm section of the iconic heavy metal band Black Sabbath. Know for his keen understanding with bassist Geezer Butler and creating pounding rhythms, he gave songs like “Iron Man,” “Paranoid,” and “War Pigs” an added bounce and dimension.

He was more than a sticks man and performed vocals on two Sabbath songs: “It’s Alright” from the album “Technical Ecstasy” and “Swinging the Chain” from “Never Say Die!.” He showed off his talents again during his solo career, where he played various instruments on albums like his debut “Ward One: Along the Way.” In 2020 he released a song called “Powder on the Moon.”
