The wits about this guy must be commended for starters. The concept of a phonebook was first invented in 1878. The directory was a one-page list that had only 50 numbers on it. He clearly wanted to get her number with his witty phonebook line, but he wasn’t expecting to play Russian roulette.
The gamble between choosing which number was hers was definitely a dangerous game. Russian roulette is believed to have emerged in the Tsarist army. It was a way of entertaining onlookers, but it was also dangerous. This guy might not be so amused after his attempt.
