Attractive Stewardesses
Once upon a time, flight attendants were called “stewardesses” because they were all women. Nowadays, the task is also available to men, but that hasn’t always been the case. During the ’60s and ’70s, which are often considered the golden era of air travel in the United States, you needed to meet specific requirements to work as a stewardess.
Stewardesses needed to be glamorous and enticing, so attractive young women were the perfect fit for the job. The days of objectifying flight attendants are fortunately over, but there are still beauty-related contests in the airline world. Virgin Atlantic flight attendants, for instance, were voted “most attractive” in 2017.
