A Million-Dollar Mistake
The Aeronautical Information Manual states that a runway is considered “contaminated” if it’s icy, frosty, slushy, snowy, or rubbery. In other words, runways are only 100% safe when they’re 100% clean. According to Wired, airport officials get rid of ice on the runway by using salt-based chemicals.
But is it truly that important? Well, we believe this picture speaks a thousand words… When pilots decide to ignore the rules and go for an icy landing, disasters can happen. The cost of repairing the airplane alone is going to be massive, but what about the building? It’s a million-dollar mistake not to be repeated!
