If there’s one rule of talk shows, it has to be “don’t hurt your audience!” Well, apparently, Ellen DeGeneres did not get the memo. After a scooter race with actor Zach Braff outside the set of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, things went horribly wrong. “I thought it would be fun to pretend to run over [producer] Andy … in a nice, loving way,” the host said later. However, that’s not exactly how things went down…

Instead, DeGeneres accidentally drove straight into the audience, causing a small group of audience members to need to jump out of the way! “My finger was [stuck, so I was at full speed at like two miles an hour,” DeGeneres explained. Thankfully, no audience members were hurt, and the host walked away with nothing more than a sore knee.

Once It’s In…

When you’re talking for hours every morning, a blooper is bound to slip out. Holly Willoughby can certainly attest to that! During a cooking segment on the British talk show This Morning, Willoughby refused to take a second bite of a delicious dessert made by a guest chef. “Not a big one. I’m not eating a big one,” she said. “I can’t. I can’t — it’s daytime. It breaks my rule.”

After some prodding from the guest chef, Willoughby took a second, bigger bite. As the camera zoomed in on her face, the host could not help but say, “Once it’s in, I love it!” Of course, thanks to her unintended double entendre, the audience burst out laughing. Soon enough, Willoughby was laughing as well!

Bouncing Around The Stage

Millions of people around the world love pop princess Meghan Trainor’s hit single “Me Too.” However, no one expected it to become one of the funniest talk show bloopers ever! While performing the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Trainor’s legs became entangled and she took quite the stumble in front of the live studio audience! Thankfully, Fallon jumped right up and helped her, but her surprised yelp and his laughing only made the audience giggle harder!

Incredibly, Trainor jumped right up without missing a beat! “I’m gonna fall eventually one day, so let this be it,” she said moments after the incident. That’s a real performer right there!

Zippers: A Woman’s Worst Friend

Everything started fine when singer and actress Jennifer Hudson walked on to Chelsea Handler’s now-defunct talk show, Chelsea Lately, back in 2013. Then Hudson sat down. As she took a seat, the singer’s skirt’s zipper seemed to explode. It all came undone in an instant, with nearly the entire skirt breaking open!

“Oh my G*d!” Handler screamed as Hudson tried to cover up from the audience. Helpless, the singer told Handler to “Zip [her] back up!” The two stars spent nearly 30 seconds, all on-air, trying to zip the skirt back up. All the while, Hudson kept begging, “Don’t break the zipper!” Thankfully, the two figured it out together, and the interview went on as planned. That’s undoubtedly a wardrobe lesson neither will ever forget!

Heidi Klum’s Yodeling Accident

For those that don’t remember, world-famous supermodel Heidi Klum first wore Victoria’s Secret’s “Fantasy Bra” back in 2001. Then, two years later, she appeared on the The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to debut a new version of the underwear. While there, she decided to also demonstrate her yodeling ability. Apparently, the bra was not a fan, as it immediately snapped! Believe it or not, that’s not even the most incredible part of this talk show blooper!

Fellow guest Martin Short and Leo both held their jackets over Klum as she changed. Incredibly, Klum managed to tell a story about swimming with sharks – all while putting on some new clothes! Without a doubt, she’s one of the best supermodels ever.

Fainting Lady Liberty

Not all talk show bloopers are funny! In one of the most dramatic moments on television, socialite and host Wendy Williams fainted during the 2017 Halloween episode of her titular talk show. While wearing a Statue of Liberty costume, Williams started to look quite unfocused. Suddenly, her eyes went wide and she fell to the floor! The television crew ran to her aid as the channel quickly went to commercial.

The true television star she is, Williams continued the show that day! “That was not a stunt,” she said in the next segment. “I’m overheated in my costume and I did pass out. But you know what? I’m a champ, and I’m back.” As you might imagine, the audience cheered her dedication!

The Zipper Betrayal

Is there anything worse than needing to deal with a blooper in the middle of an important interview? Well, we can ask Kelly Ripa! During an interview with the one and only Oprah Winfrey, her zipper started to come down. While trying to fix it, the problem only gets worse and worse! “My zipper has betrayed me. I’m gonna blame…I don’t know…” Ripa said at the time.

After apologizing to Winfrey, Regis Philbin, Ripa’s co-host, tried to help Ripa with her zipper. But he couldn’t fix it! Still, the quick-witted host couldn’t help but make a joke at Ripa’s expense: “Well, I’m enjoying [the malfunction]!” he said, grinning devilishly. Hey, at least he tried to help!

I Didn’t Quite Catch That

Plenty of talk shows have prank call segments. However, one prank call, from the The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2010, took a rather unexpected turn. You see, DeGeneres decided to randomly call an accountant on April 14, the day before tax day. Due to the stress of tax season, the call soon completely unraveled…

During the call, DeGeneres asked real tax questions, with jokes sprinkled throughout. However, the accountant was having none of it! By the end, she managed to loosen him up a bit, getting him to shout that he was the “greatest accountant in the world.” Next, DeGeneres asked him to yell out, “I need a hug!” Instead, the accountant shouted, “I need a ho!” The audience burst into laughter, while DeGeneres could not believe her ears. “NO! Not a ho!” she said, stiffing back laughter. “A hug!”

Spit It Up

Who doesn’t love Questlove, the beloved drummer from The Roots? Well, comedians Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key sure do! However, they probably should have told the production team of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon about their adoration before appearing on the show. During their interview, they referenced Questlove, who clearly wasn’t ready for it. The camera cut to the drummer, and he spit out his drink in genuine surprise! Of course, the audience found it hysterical.

A few years later, Fallon told Questlove the blooper was one of his favorite moments ever. “You did an actual spit take on the show and it’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever seen,” Fallon told him. “I call it, ‘I Was Choking,'” Questlove quipped back, a reference to a Roots song.

He Should Have Stuck To Singing

For those who don’t know, t-shirt guns are actually pretty dangerous – and can result in some hysterical talk show bloopers. When pop sensation Justin Bieber appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show in 2015, he decided to give the fans a little something. So, he started firing off t-shirts into the audience with a t-shirt gun. The only problem? Bieber can’t aim. On the third shot, he fired a t-shirt straight at a camera, smashing it to bits. Whoops!

The next time Bieber appeared on the show, he told DeGeneres that he’d “done some things that might not have been the greatest.” We wonder what on Earth he could be talking about…

One Little Noise

Sometimes, the funniest talk show bloopers stem from simple mistakes. While hosting ITV’s This Morning, British starlet Holly Willoughby made an odd little noise. Hey, we’ve all done it before! However, her co-host, Phillip Schofield, simply could not hold back his laughter! Soon enough, Willoughby had joined it. While it was just one little noise, their laughing was so profound and intense that the clip went viral the same day.

“Oh, we haven’t done this for a long time!” Schofield managed to get out while laughing. Of course, his laughing only made Willoughby laugh even more. “You’ve got to stop … I’m going to cry my eyelashes off!” she said, tears streaming down her face.

Prank or Not?

While daytime talk shows undoubtedly experience the most bloopers, the Late Night with Seth Meyers has also had its fair share of mishaps. One of the funniest, and strangest, came relatively early on in Meyers’ hosting career. In the middle of the comedian’s monologue, a German tourist wandered on stage and started taking pictures. That’s right!

For many years, fans of the show thought the German cameraman was one big prank. However, later, Meyers revealed it wasn’t – it was a genuine blooper! “Still have no idea how this German tourist slipped past security,” he tweeted. “We’ve stopped trying to figure it out.”

Conan’s Zoo

These days, it’s pretty common for talk show hosts to invite zookeepers on to inform the world about the diversity of wildlife. Of course, wild animals on a show mean there’s always the chance for hysterical bloopers. And it seems that every time animal expert David Mizejewski appeared on Conan O’Brien’s titular TBS talk show, the animals simply did not like the famed comedian and host!

Of all of Mizejewski’s appearances, his 2012 appearance ranks amongst the funniest. Not only did the Monitor Lizard constantly struggle to leave O’Brien’s arms, but a giant white pelican also flew on-stage and started wreaking havoc. Mizejewski seemed a little startled himself, giving audiences a clue that things were not going as planned…

If You Want Something Done Right…

Comedian Bill Maher never holds back his opinions – even about his own audience members! While hosting an episode of his HBO show Real Time in 2009, an audience member stood up and started screaming at Maher. The host became enraged, saying, “Do we have some security in this building? Or do I have to come over and kick this guy’s a**?” Incredibly, Maher actually walked into the audience, ready to tangle with the screamer, but security got there first.

Believe it or not, it’s not the only time Maher nearly played bouncer! In 2019 it happened again! This time, Maher simply stood up and stared down the heckler. “This is not the first time I’ve had to go in the audience,” the host reminded the 2019 heckler. The threat certainly worked, as the audience member quickly shut up.

“I Hate My Life”

Of course, by now, almost everyone knows that Ellen DeGeneres loves pranking the celebrities that come onto her show. However, one stands out from all the rest. Most recently, DeGeneres managed to scare Late Night host Jimmy Fallon. But it didn’t go exactly as planned. When DeGeneres had a costumed character jump up behind Fallon, he nearly had a heart attack! In fact, he hated the experience!

“I hate my life. I hate everything,” Fallon said, after screaming longer and louder than any past guest. Incredibly, this is the second time the late-night star has fallen for DeGeneres’ mean pranks. You think he would have learned his lesson after the previous near-heart-attack experience!
