Special Women to Have Won the Nobel Prize with Their Remarkable Contributions

Jane Addams

Nobel Laureate Jane Addams was a woman of many hats. She was known as a social worker and feminist who kept settlement matters and public administration close to her heart. The author was also known for her reformist agenda and handling of matters relating to sociology. Apart from advocating for world peace, she spearheaded women’s suffrage in the United States.

In 1931, Addams became the first American woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her settlement house advocacy. This wasn’t the first milestone for the Cedarville-born lecturer, as in 1910 she became the first woman to receive a Yale honorary master of arts degree.
