Special Women to Have Won the Nobel Prize with Their Remarkable Contributions

Grazia Deledda

By winning the 1926 Nobel Prize in Literature, Grazia Deledda became the second woman in history to win the prize. The largely Rome-based writer also became the first Italian woman to win the award thanks to her uniquely written work. Her publications focused on life in Sardinia, her native island.

Deledda drew inspiration from people around her in real life and even developed her characters from them. The idealistically inspired publications dealt with human problems in general, as they were deep and sympathetic to people’s life predicaments. The Nuoro-born novelist has a museum commemorating her with ten rooms of her most crucial life episodes.
