Special Women to Have Won the Nobel Prize with Their Remarkable Contributions

Sigrid Undset

The Danish-Norwegian novelist Sigrid Undset was a trailblazer in the literature industry who mostly wrote about middle-aged life in Norway. Born in Kalundborg, Denmark, she moved with her parents to Norway when she was just two. In 1940, she fled the Scandinavian state for the United States due to her strong opposition to the German invasion and occupation of Norway and Nazi Germany.

Undset, however, returned after the end of World War II in 1945. Undset was awarded the 1928 Nobel Prize for Literature for her publications, which comprised the most popular “Kristin Lavransdatter,” a trilogy about a woman’s experience from her birth to death.
