Special Women to Have Won the Nobel Prize with Their Remarkable Contributions

Nadine Gordimer

Writing was in Nadine Gordimer’s blood right from childhood, as she had her first piece of literature published as a 15-year-old. The great South African of Jewish descent churned out magnificent writings which became greatly beneficial to humanity. She became known for her “The Conservationist” novel, although a good portion of her writing focused on apartheid, tackling racial and moral issues.

In 1991, Gordimer was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for her work. The late political activist was also at the forefront of championing HIV/AIDS causes. She famously advised former South African president the late Nelson Mandela on his epic trial defense speech in 1964.
