Captured by Al Bello, this photograph shows an Olympic swimmer who represents the United States emerging from the water. But here, the swimmer looks like they are mutant sea creature. From the angle the photo was captured, the swimmer looks like they lack a nose and are a part of the water as it flows smoothly down their head and face without a break.

This phenomenon occurs due to the surface tension of water. Surface tension occurs because of the high attraction of water molecules to one another, because of the hydrogen bond between the molecules. This means that water has a tendency to shrink so that it can occupy a minimum area.
