The Side of Sports You Rarely See: Hilarious Images of Our Favorite Athletes That’ll Make You Chuckle

A SHOWDOWN WITH HIS IDOL

Meeting our idols is a dream come true for most people. It was a special day for this young sumo fan when he got to meet Konishiki Yasokichi, a legend in the sumo wrestling sphere on June 7, 1997. Right before the main event at Melbourne Park, the young fan got to have fun with Yasokichi.

Yasokichi was the first wrestler, not born in Japan, to reach the second-highest possible rank, ōzeki, in sumo wrestling. This prompted the conversation on whether a non-Japanese-born wrestler could understand the cultural importance of the sport. At his heaviest, he weighed 633 lbs and was a towering figure at a height of 6’1.
