In questa foto vediamo il capitano Smith e il suo vice, alla sua sinistra, il commissario di bordo Hugh Walter McElroy. L’autore di questo storico scatto fu il reverendo FM Browne, che sali sulla nave solo per scattare la foto ricordo e poi scese prima che salpasse. Il Capitani Smith e il suo vice McElroy perirono a bordo, senza mai aver abbandonato la nave, come vuole il codice di onore della marina. Il capitano infatti può lasciare la nave solo dopo essersi assicurato che nessuno sia rimasto a bordo. Uomini coraggiosi, che hanno dato la loro vita per salvarne altre.
