Which Shows Netflix Has Canceled (And Which They’ve Renewed)

Wondering which of your favorite Netflix shows have been canceled and which have been renewed? Well, find out here – the answers will surprise you…

GLOW (Canceled)

Netflix

Sadly, the coronavirus impacted nearly every part of our lives, even television. Not only did filming of many shows come to a screeching halt, others ended completely. GLOW, the comedy-drama about female wrestling in the ’80s, was one of the many shows outright canceled due to COVID-19.

“COVID has killed actual humans. It’s a national tragedy and should be our focus. COVID also apparently took down our show. Netflix has decided not to finish filming the final season of GLOW,” show co-creator Liz Flahive wrote in a statement. “We’ll miss our cast of weirdo clowns and our heroic crew. It was the best job.”

Selling Sunset (Renewed)

It seems that Netflix has quite a bit of faith in their real estate reality show Selling Sunsets. Season 3 of the hit show, which follows high-end real estate firm Oppenheim Group, dropped on the streaming service in late 2020, just months after season 2 went viral. Now, the company has renewed Selling Sunsets for two more seasons!

Netflix

Expect the whole crew, Jason and Brett Oppenheim, Chrishell Stause, Christine Quinn, and Mary Fitzgerald, are all going to return. However, Davina Potratz will not return, as she has gone to work for a rival firm, Douglas Elliman. Expect more drama in the next two seasons of Selling Sunsets!

Bling Empire (Renewed)

Since the announcement that Keeping Up With The Kardashians would end, Netflix has been pumping out shows to give Kardashian fans an alternative. Bling Empire, which follows a group of insanely wealthy Asians who live in Los Angeles, is one such show! And just like Crazy Rich Asians and the Kardashians, Bling Empire became a massive hit!

Netflix

While we don’t have any information on when season two will air, Bling Empire star Christine Chiu says fans are in for a massive surprise. “If you thought I dropped a big bomb in season one, then you have no idea,” she told Oprah Magazine.

Too Hot To Handle (Renewed)

Yes, it’s true: everyone’s favorite Netflix reality show will return! Too Hot to Handle, the infamous dating show where young people try to keep their hands off each other, has certainly caused a stir online. Some people love it; others hate it. But there’s no question: it has become quite the money maker for the streaming giant. So, it was a forgone conclusion that Netflix would bring it back for a third season.

Netflix

However, now, it’s official! “The secret is out — we’re thrilled to bring back Too Hot to Handle,” Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s VP of unscripted and documentary series, told Variety in early 2021. While there’s no release date just yet, you can bet that it will hit streaming the moment it’s ready!

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Canceled)

While Riverdale remains one of the most popular shows on television, its spin-offs have not done as well. Still, while Katy Keene (the first Riverdale spinoff) only lasted a single season, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina earned four. Not too shabby! Taking a darker tone than the ’90s Sabrina, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina followed the titular witch trying to navigate high school and the occult world.

Critics may have loved Kiernan Shipka’s title performance, it could not save the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina from the effects of the coronavirus. Sadly for fans, Netflix canceled the show while reigning in the budget.

Elite (Renewed)

Love Spanish dramas? Well, we have good news: the hit Netflix drama Elite will return for a fifth season! Often compared to the American show Gossip Girl, Elite follows three working-class teenage students who have earned scholarships to one of Spain’s most expensive private schools. As you might suspect, the show deals with bullying, romance, discrimination, and more through the high school lens.

Netflix

While season four of Elite premiered in June 2021, Netflix confirmed in February that the show would receive a fifth season sometime in 2022. While some have claimed the show is too explicit for one set in a high school, it seems most viewers want more and more!

Emily In Paris (Renewed)

While not every critic was a fan, the ridiculous and titillating comedy Emily in Paris certainly found its fans! Created by Darren Star, of Sex and the City and Younger fame, the series follows the titular Emily, portrayed by Lily Collins, when she uproots her life to Paris. As you might suspect, she finds friendship, laughs, and plenty of romance in the famed city.

Netflix

Now that Emily in Paris has become an Emmy-nominated show, Netflix wasted no time renewing the hit. Collins revealed the coming of season two in a hysterical Twitter video where she receives a text message from the streaming company.
