Which Shows Netflix Has Canceled (And Which They’ve Renewed)

Wondering which of your favorite Netflix shows have been canceled and which have been renewed? Well, find out here – the answers will surprise you…

October Faction (Canceled)

Netflix

Sometimes, Netflix makes a big announcement when it cancels a show. It releases a big press release thanking fans and wishing the cast and crew the best. Other times, however, the company quietly cancels a bunch of shows at once. In mid 2020, without so much as a tweet, the streaming platform canceled both V-Wars and October Faction after one season each.

The cancellation of October Faction, a supernatural drama about monster hunters, certainly raised some eyebrows, as critics praised the performance of the show’s lead, Tamara Taylor. Oh, well! There are plenty of horror shows streaming these days!

And once you’re done planning out your streaming schedule, find out which of your favorite older television celebrities are still alive and well!

Ozark (Final Season)

Do you love the crime drama Ozark? Then prepare for one final season! Much like its spiritual predecessor, Breaking Bad, Ozark‘s team had an end in mind from the beginning, and Netflix will allow them to complete the story. Soon enough, fans will learn precisely how the Bydre family’s story of money laundering and violence will end!

Netflix

While no release date has been announced yet, the streaming company let fans know the fourth and final season of Ozark will feature 14 episodes and be split into two parts. That’s a lot of hours of television!

Selling Sunset (Renewed)

It seems that Netflix has quite a bit of faith in their real estate reality show Selling Sunsets. Season 3 of the hit show, which follows high-end real estate firm Oppenheim Group, dropped on the streaming service in late 2020, just months after season 2 went viral. Now, the company has renewed Selling Sunsets for two more seasons!

Netflix

Expect the whole crew, Jason and Brett Oppenheim, Chrishell Stause, Christine Quinn, and Mary Fitzgerald, are all going to return. However, Davina Potratz will not return, as she has gone to work for a rival firm, Douglas Elliman. Expect more drama in the next two seasons of Selling Sunsets!

GLOW (Canceled)

Sadly, the coronavirus impacted nearly every part of our lives, even television. Not only did filming of many shows come to a screeching halt, others ended completely. GLOW, the comedy-drama about female wrestling in the ’80s, was one of the many shows outright canceled due to COVID-19.

Netflix

“COVID has killed actual humans. It’s a national tragedy and should be our focus. COVID also apparently took down our show. Netflix has decided not to finish filming the final season of GLOW,” show co-creator Liz Flahive wrote in a statement. “We’ll miss our cast of weirdo clowns and our heroic crew. It was the best job.”

Bling Empire (Renewed)

Since the announcement that Keeping Up With The Kardashians would end, Netflix has been pumping out shows to give Kardashian fans an alternative. Bling Empire, which follows a group of insanely wealthy Asians who live in Los Angeles, is one such show! And just like Crazy Rich Asians and the Kardashians, Bling Empire became a massive hit!

Netflix

While we don’t have any information on when season two will air, Bling Empire star Christine Chiu says fans are in for a massive surprise. “If you thought I dropped a big bomb in season one, then you have no idea,” she told Oprah Magazine.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Canceled)

While Riverdale remains one of the most popular shows on television, its spin-offs have not done as well. Still, while Katy Keene (the first Riverdale spinoff) only lasted a single season, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina earned four. Not too shabby! Taking a darker tone than the ’90s Sabrina, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina followed the titular witch trying to navigate high school and the occult world.

Netflix

Critics may have loved Kiernan Shipka’s title performance, it could not save the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina from the effects of the coronavirus. Sadly for fans, Netflix canceled the show while reigning in the budget.

Elite (Renewed)

Love Spanish dramas? Well, we have good news: the hit Netflix drama Elite will return for a fifth season! Often compared to the American show Gossip Girl, Elite follows three working-class teenage students who have earned scholarships to one of Spain’s most expensive private schools. As you might suspect, the show deals with bullying, romance, discrimination, and more through the high school lens.

Netflix

While season four of Elite premiered in June 2021, Netflix confirmed in February that the show would receive a fifth season sometime in 2022. While some have claimed the show is too explicit for one set in a high school, it seems most viewers want more and more!

Emily In Paris (Renewed)

While not every critic was a fan, the ridiculous and titillating comedy Emily in Paris certainly found its fans! Created by Darren Star, of Sex and the City and Younger fame, the series follows the titular Emily, portrayed by Lily Collins, when she uproots her life to Paris. As you might suspect, she finds friendship, laughs, and plenty of romance in the famed city.

Netflix

Now that Emily in Paris has become an Emmy-nominated show, Netflix wasted no time renewing the hit. Collins revealed the coming of season two in a hysterical Twitter video where she receives a text message from the streaming company.

The Order (Canceled)

Horror is hard to do on television. Just ask the creators of The Order, the horror-drama series about secret societies and magic, set at Belgrave University. Even by the second season, fans felt the show had started to lose steam and grow boring. And when the viewers tune out, Netflix is sure to turn the show off.

Netflix

Series creator Dennis Heaton recently confirmed the sad news on Twitter: “For two seasons I was honored to work with an incredible cast and crew on ‘The Order’ for @Netflix. It was one of the best experiences of my career. Unfortunately, we aren’t returning, but I will always cherish the memories and the props I stole. Thank you all for watching.”

Ginny and Georgia (Renewed)

It seems everyone needed a feel-good hit at the start of 2021 – and Ginny and Georgia filled that void! The mother-daughter drama follows 30-year-old Georgia, who relocates her children, 15-year-old Ginny and 9-year-old Austin, to New England after their father passes away. While the show has found itself in hot water due to some not-so-appropriate jokes, Netflix doesn’t seem to mind – it renewed Ginny and Georgia for a second season!

Netflix

“We are so appreciative of the incredible response and love you all have shown Ginny and Georgia,” showrunner Debra J. Fisher and creator Sarah Lampert said in a statement. “We can’t wait to return to Wellsbury for season 2.”

Floor Is Lava (Renewed)

Nostalgia has undoubtedly become the name of the game in television. So, it makes sense that Floor Is Lava became one of the biggest game shows of 2020! Based on the classic childhood game, in Lava teams of contestants must cross, climb, or leap over obstacles, all while trying to avoid falling into the “lava” on the floor.

Netflix

While many of Netflix’s dramas failed to do big business in 2020, its unscripted shows, like Floor Is Lava, did fantastically! So, expect more soaking-wet obstacle course fun coming your way in 2021! While there’s no date yet, the streaming company confirmed Rutledge Wood would return as host.

Away (Canceled)

While the space drama Away remains one of the most beautiful shows Netflix ever made, it never found its audience. The somber show followed astronaut Emma Green (Hillary Swank) while preparing for a perilous mission to Mars. While Away was certainly timely, it seemed people wanted something a tad more uplifting during the pandemic.

Netflix

The cancellation of Away comes as the company moves away from predominately dramas to a more even mix of scripted series and reality and game shows. While Away was canned the same month as Teenage Bounty Hunters and GLOW, many non-scripted series received new seasons.

Fate: The Winx Saga (Renewed)

There’s often no way of predicting what Netflix show will find a large audience. On paper, a show that’s based on an old Italian cartoon shouldn’t have such a worldwide appeal. However, Fate: The Winx Saga has already become one of the streaming giant’s biggest hits in 2021! A live adaptation of the cartoon Winx Club, the show tells the coming-of-age story of five fairies attending Alfea, a magical boarding school in a world that mirrors our own. And teen viewers love it!

Netflix

Just a month after the first season of Fate: The Winx Saga debuted in January 2021, showrunners announced it would return for a second season! SO prepare for a lot more fairy magic! “The six episodes in season one only scratched the surface of this incredibly rich world and the powerful fairies who inhabit it,” show creator Brian Young said.

White Lines (Canceled)

Mystery shows have made a massive comeback recently, thanks to hits like Big Little Lies. Sadly, White Lines failed to make a connection with audiences. The show stars British actress Laura Haddock as Zoe Walker, who goes looking for her brother’s murderer in Ibiza. Apparently, though, viewers were simply not interested.

Netflix

“Following the reports in the press over the past couple of days and for all those asking me on here, it’s with a heavy heart I post the #WhiteLines season 2 ship has well and truly sailed,” White Lines star Daniel May wrote on Twitter recently. That’s too bad!

Ashley Garcia: Genius In Love (Canceled)

In 2020, famed actor Mario Lopez made a move into TV development when he co-created the Netflix show Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love. The family sitcom follows Ashley Garcia, the “only 15-and-a-half-year-old robotics engineer and rocket scientist in the world.” However, after debuting at the beginning of 2020, young fans failed to go crazy for the new sitcom.

Netflix

Sadly, the cancellation of Ashley Garcia: Genius In Love means that Netflix has few sitcoms remaining. Around the same time, the streaming giant also canceled three of its other sitcoms: The Ranch, One Day at a Time and Alexa and Katie. It’s hard out there for a sitcom these days!

Stranger Things (Renewed)

There’s very little know about the fourth season of Stranger Things. However, fans do know one thing: it is coming! In fact, the showrunners of everyone’s favorite ’80s science fiction show, the Duffer Brothers, even revealed the title of the first episode: “Chapter One: The Hellfire Club.” Meanwhile, Joyce, Mike, Eleven, Dustin, Lucas, and Will will all return. Even Hopper will come back – that’s right!

Netflix

“We’re excited to officially announce that production for Stranger Things 4 is now underway,” the Duffer Brothers wrote in a recent statement. “And even more excited to announce the return of Hopper!” According to the brothers, season four will deal with a “new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything.” Sign us up!

Bridgerton (Renewed)

While the hit romance period drama Bridgerton might only have one season under its belt, it’s already one of the most successful shows in Netflix history. In fact, according to the streaming company itself, it broke almost all of its previous records. So, it should really come as no surprise that Bridgerton has already been renewed through season four!

Netflix

Bridgerton swept us off our feet,” Bela Bajaria, the vice president of global TV at Netflix, stated recently. “The creative team, led by Shonda [Rhimes], knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members. They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come.”

Altered Carbon (Canceled)

When Altered Carbon debuted in 2018, it seemed Netflix had another massive hit on its hands. The science-fiction show, based on the novel of the same name by Richard K. Morgan, was a perfect blend of cyberpunk future and detective mystery. However, season two failed to make the same impact on fans, with some calling it “awful.” Soon enough, the end came for Altered Carbon.

Netflix

While the streaming company canceled Altered Carbon amidst the coronavirus lockdown, it’s not the pandemic that led to its ending. Instead, the company said it was a matter of “viewership vs. cost renewal review process.” Which, given the poor response to season two, makes sense.

Too Hot To Handle (Renewed)

Yes, it’s true: everyone’s favorite Netflix reality show will return! Too Hot to Handle, the infamous dating show where young people try to keep their hands off each other, has certainly caused a stir online. Some people love it; others hate it. But there’s no question: it has become quite the money maker for the streaming giant. So, it was a forgone conclusion that Netflix would bring it back for a third season.

Netflix

However, now, it’s official! “The secret is out — we’re thrilled to bring back Too Hot to Handle,” Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s VP of unscripted and documentary series, told Variety in early 2021. While there’s no release date just yet, you can bet that it will hit streaming the moment it’s ready!

Cobra Kai (Renewed)

After the success of Stranger Things, everyone wanted a little more ’80s in their lives. So, it’s no wonder Cobra Kai, the sequel series to the Karate Kid movies, has done so well. The series takes place 30 years after the original ’80s hit, following the continuing conflict of Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio).

Netflix

Right as the third season of Cobra Kai debuted in January 2021, Netflix announced a fourth season, coming sometime in late 2021. The whole crew, including Macchio, Zabka, and showrunners Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz, are all expected to return.

My Unorthodox Life (Status Unknown)

For those that have not watched yet, My Unorthodox Life is one of Netflix’s newest hits. It follows one of the richest women in the world, Julia Haart, the CEO of a modeling agency and a former ultra-Orthodox Jew. It’s quite a journey to watch Haart and her family navigate the fashion world, all while becoming accustomed to their new, non-religious lifestyle.

Netflix

While the streaming company has yet to confirm My Unorthodox Life will return for season two, it’s certainly possible! Not only is it one of a handful of popular shows exploring the Orthodox Jewish life, but the company has become very fond of reality shows in recent years.

Who Killed Sara? (Renewed)

It seems that Netflix has found new success with Spanish dramas! Along with Elite, the company has also decided to renew its other hit Spanish drama, the murder mystery Who Killed Sara? The show follows Alex (Manolo Cardona), a man convicted of a murder he did not commit, who tries to find the real killer after he’s released from jail. Dramatic stuff!

Netflix

Season two of Who Killed Sara? just premiered, and at the very end of the credits of the finale, the streaming company gave fans even more great news: season three is coming! So keep your eyes peeled for a release date!

Master Of None (Status Unknown)

After a long, four-year gap, the dramaedy Master of None finally returned in 2021. However, it did not return in the way many expected it would. Instead of focusing on the main character of seasons one and two, Aziz Ansari’s Dev, it instead focused on side characters Denise and Alicia’s new marriage.

Netflix

While fans enjoyed the new season, they had to wonder: will fans ever discover what happened to Dev? Well, only time will tell. As of now, Netflix has not announced a fourth season of Master of None. But fans certainly hope they do soon! Though, it may take another four years…

On My Block (Final Season)

Teen comedy-dramas remain as popular ever – just take a look at On My Block! The hit show, which follows a group of friends from the rough Los Angeles neighborhood of Freeridge, quickly became a hit for the streaming service. However, it looks like the company is already preparing to wrap things up.

Netflix

While Netflix has decided to stop producing On My Block, it gave the show a chance to make a graceful exit. Instead of simply canceling the show outright, the company renewed it for a fourth and final season in early 2021. Hopefully, the showrunners can wrap up all the loose threads in just a few episodes!

Virgin River (Renewed)

Netflix knows its fans love romantic dramas! So it should really come as no surprise that there are new Virgin River episodes coming soon enough! For those that haven’t watched, the show tells the story of Mel, portrayed by Alexandra Breckenridge, who attempts to start a new life in the remote Northern California town of Virgin River. Of course, romance and drama ensue!

Netflix

While Netflix has not officially announced a fourth season of Virgin River, the showrunner and stars have hinted at the fact that they’re gearing up to get back to work. Plus, season four set photos leaked earlier this year, confirming a forthcoming season!

The Society (Canceled)

In late 2020, Netflix pulled a surprise bigger than some of its own shows’ twist endings. Earlier in the year, the company decided to renew The Society, it’s a teen thriller about young adults running their own town. However, just a few months later, in August, 2020, Netflix pulled the rug out from the cast and crew, reversing their decision and canceling the show instead. That’s right!

Netflix

According to the company, it simply could no longer justify a second season of The Society in the face of mounting costs as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Sadly, fans will never discover how the teens of West Ham, Connecticut fared…

Space Force (Renewed)

Space Force was a slam dunk before it premiered a single episode. After all, the government workplace comedy reunited the creator of The Office, Greg Daniels, with The Office‘s biggest star, Steve Carrell. Plus, Space Force not only fills The Office void Netflix had, but also remains as timely as ever! Meanwhile, fellow stars John Malkovich and Lisa Kudrow turned out stellar performances. It has everything!

Netflix

Now, Netflix has ordered a second season of Space Force, likely to debut in 2022. While the original had a budget of just over $1 million per episode, it seems the streaming giant doesn’t mind floating the bill as long as it brings subscribers in!

I Am Not Okay With This (Canceled)

Unfortunately, Netflix learned a hard lesson with their supernatural teen dramaedy I Am Not Okay With This: you can’t rip off your own product. While the show started off as an average teen drama, it quickly descended into Stranger Things-like madness by the end of the first season. It even starred two of the child actors in the IT series, another child-centric horror property.

Netflix

In the end, however, I Am Not Okay With This did not have the magic of either IT or Stranger Things. Due to a combination of the coronavirus and low viewership, Netflix canceled the show in late 2020.

The Big Show Show (Canceled)

At this point, it’s hard to count how many former WWE stars have enjoyed a successful film and television show career. From The Rock and Roddy Piper to John Cena and Dave Bautista, many have shown it’s possible! Recently, the Big Show tried his hand at acting as well, starring as a fictionalized version of himself in the family sitcom The Big Show.

Netflix

Sadly, fans did not respond the same way they did with other pro-wrestlers-turned-actors. Just a few months after the first season of The Big Show premiered, co-creator Jason Berger confirmed the show’s cancellation. “On behalf of the staff, cast, and crew of #thebigshowshow…thank you to everyone who watched either with your fam or alone in your basement. Netflix was a dream to work with AND we had a blast making the show,” he wrote on Twitter.

Teenage Bounty Hunters (Canceled)

Sometimes, Netflix knows almost immediately that one of its shows will not do the business they wanted. Just two months after Teenage Bounty Hunters premiered, the streaming service decided to cancel the show. For the many who didn’t watch, the show told the story of teen sisters Sterling and Blair Wesley who become – you guessed it – teenage bounty hunters.

Netflix

While Teenage Bounty Hunters did well in Russia, Ukraine and Austria, it bombed almost everywhere else. It seems people simply did not like the mix of action and teenage humor. As such, the streaming company canceled the show, their tenth cancellation of 2020.

Castlevania (Canceled)

Sometimes, a show runs out of the steam and ends up canceled. However, other times, the crew always has an end in mind. That’s the case with the horror-action animated series Castlevania. Based on the world-famous video game series of the same name, the show follows a group of vampire hunters battling an incredibly powerful version of Dracula.

Netflix

While Netflix ended Castlevania after its fourth season in 2021, just as showrunners always intended, fans should not despair! The company also announced a forthcoming spin-off that will follow the character of Richter Belmont during the French Revolution.

Patriot Act With Hasan Minhaj (Canceled)

In case you have not noticed, Netflix has its own answer to almost every big show on network and cable television. The Patriot Act With Hasan Minhaj quickly became the company’s version of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. The streaming platform even hired Minhaj, a former correspondent on The Daily Show!

Netflix

Sadly for fans, while Patriot Act was a hit that ran for six seasons, it seems Netflix is no longer in the market for this kind of program. “What a run. Patriot Act has come to an end,” Minhaj wrote on Twitter in late 2020. “I got work with the best writers, producers, researchers and animators in the game.”

Hoops (Canceled)

Cartoons oriented at adults are all the rage. From South Park, Family Guy, and Rick and Morty to Netflix’s own Big Mouth and F Is For Family, adult animation is almost always a sure thing. Almost. Unfortunately, Hoops, the show about a foul-mouthed high school basketball coach and his team, did not click with fans. Even the voice talents of funny folks like Ron Funches, Natasha Leggero, and Rob Riggle could not save Hoops.

Netflix

After just a single season of Hoops, which earned an abysmal 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, Netflix threw in the towel, quite literally. Once again, the decision came down to “viewership versus its cost,” according to a source close to the show.

Feel Good (Canceled)

No questions asked, it was hard for fans to say goodbye to the British romantic comedy Feel Good. Hailed by many as “Netflix’s hidden gem,” Feel Good follows could Mae, a nonbinary person, and George, a repressed, middle-class English woman, as they try and navigate a romantic relationship. While the show certainly opened up a lot of people’s eyes, the streaming giant released some bad news recently…

Netflix

Sadly for fans, Netflix announced it would not go forward with any new seasons of Feel Good after releasing the second in mid-2021. The good news is, there are plenty of other romantic comedies on the platform to enjoy!

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (Canceled)

The ’80s strike once again! This time, in the form of old-school puppets and a rebooted fantasy film. However, it seems that some things are better left buried. Despite a massive marketing campaign and plenty of hype, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, a prequel to the 1982 Jim Henson film, failed to make an impression on audiences.

Netflix

So, it should really come as no surprise that Netflix decided against a second season of the expensive series. “We can confirm that there will not be an additional season of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” executive producer Lisa Henson said in 2020.

October Faction (Canceled)

Sometimes, Netflix makes a big announcement when it cancels a show. It releases a big press release thanking fans and wishing the cast and crew the best. Other times, however, the company quietly cancels a bunch of shows at once. In mid 2020, without so much as a tweet, the streaming platform canceled both V-Wars and October Faction after one season each.

Netflix

The cancellation of October Faction, a supernatural drama about monster hunters, certainly raised some eyebrows, as critics praised the performance of the show’s lead, Tamara Taylor. Oh, well! There are plenty of horror shows streaming these days!

And once you’re done planning out your streaming schedule, find out which of your favorite older television celebrities are still alive and well!

Betty White – 99-Years-Old, $75 Million Net Worth

Of the older actresses on The Golden Girls, Betty White remains the only one still alive and kicking. The 98-year-old actress has the longest sustained career of any other in Hollywood, spanning 80 years. Yes, you read that right! Throughout her successful career, White became a pioneer of television. In case you didn’t know, she became the first woman to produce a sitcom, Life With Elizabeth, in 1953 and, two years later, received the Honorary title of “Mayor of Hollywood.”

Today, most of White’s fortune comes from her many television roles over the years. Believe it or not, the actress earned $75,000 per episode for Hot in Cleveland between 2010 and 2015. Then, White earned another $50,000 per episode of her own show, Off Their Rockers! Today, the actress’ net worth is $75 million!
