Meet the Stunning FIFA World Cup Fans Putting the ‘Beautiful’ in “Beautiful Game”

Paraguay

It happened in most Latin-American countries, and Paraguay is no exception. Soccer was imported into the nation by European immigrants and ended up becoming a local folk tradition. In Paraguay’s case, the “arrival” of the sport is linked to the sports instructor William Paats, of Dutch origin.

Paats introduced Paraguay to soccer in the late 19th century after making a visit to Buenos Aires, in neighboring Argentina. Paats brought a football back to Asunción and the history of sports in Paraguay was never the same! Years later, he founded the first Paraguayan soccer club, which is now known as Club Olimpia.
