2006: A Holographic Performance

Just as the awards show kicked off at the Grammys in 2006, the music wasn’t loud enough, and no one had noticed that the first performance was on. The organizers knew that any loud bass would ruin the illusion, but when a virtual Madonna had left, the music blasted in full, and the night was on.

The performance was by the Gorillaz, a virtual animated group, and a live Madonna. They were on stage to perform a medley of hits, including “Hung Up” and “Feel Good Inc.” A trick called the Pepper’s Ghost was used to make the collaboration successful, and it sure left most people dumbfounded.
