1988: Miss Thailand, Bui Simon
Bui Simon turned heads in 1988 when she won Miss Universe for Thailand, becoming the country’s second titleholder and the first to be born in the United States. She then went into full philanthropist mode. After years of working in education and social services, she founded the Angel Wings Foundation, which focuses on helping underserved children in Thailand access education and basic care.
Bui also served as Thailand’s Goodwill Ambassador to UNICEF and sat on various nonprofit boards. Oh—and she’s married to billionaire businessman Herbert Simon, owner of the Indiana Pacers. Crown, cause, courtside seats—she’s living every version of the dream.
