Il ne voulait pas être célébré au profit de la misère
La première idée qui vient à l’esprit en regardant la photo ci-dessus est la force de son symbolisme. Mike Wells, le photographe qui a capturé cette image, a notamment été récompensé d’un World Press Photo Award pour le travail remarquable qu’il a accompli à travers ce cliché.
Mike a pourtant été très hésitant à prendre cette photo, laquelle illustre l’une des pires famines que l’Ouganda ait connues dans son histoire. Il se sentait notamment coupable de tirer profit d’une situation telle que la famine pour réaliser un cliché unique qui lui vaudra un prix. Il est difficile de ne pas le comprendre sachant que 21 % de la population ougandaise a péri à cause de cette famine.
