Ils ont tous protesté pour le Black Power
L’image ci-dessus a été capturée en 1968 lors des Jeux olympiques de 1968. Les deux hommes avec le poing levé sont Tommie Smith et John Carlos, des athlètes américains qui ont gagné respectivement la médaille d’or et de bronze aux épreuves du sprint. Ils ont profité de leur victoire pour exprimer leur attachement au Black Power aux yeux du monde entier.
Tommie et John n’étaient pas les seuls à prendre un geste de protestation sur les podiums ce jour-là. Peter Norman, l’autre athlète sur cette photo, portait en effet un badge de soutien à Tommie et John sur sa veste, ce qui lui a valu de ne plus participer aux Jeux olympiques par la suite.
