Doutzen Kroes is nooit een lelijke eendje geweest, maar de modellenindustrie kan hard zijn en vooral lastig om een doorbraak te forceren. Het mag dan ook gelukje heten dat ze op vandaag wordt aanzien als één van de best verdienende modellen aller tijden, en dat onder andere Gucci, Versace en Victoria’s Secret haar inhuurden om hun producten te laten schitteren. De vele opdrachten die ze kon binnenhalen, leverden haar een mooi fortuin op, dat geschat wordt op zo’n 30 miljoen euro. In 2018 besloot ze met een deel van dat geld een oud huis in het Gooi, maakte het vervolgens met de grond gelijk en liet er voor een paar miljoen euro een dikke villa op bouwen. Het werd een bijzonder gezicht met tal van glaspartijen en uiteraard voldoende aandacht voor ecologie, met aangrenzend een grote zwemvijver om heerlijk te verkoelen op hete zomerdagen.
