Blowing Off Steam

Hawaii is home to some beautiful spots, including the Volcanoes National Park. In the vicinity, the Kilauea Caldera can be found but what makes this even more breathtaking is the crater. Called Halema‘uma‘u Crater, it is the most active vent of the rock formation.

According to Chicago Tribune, people used to spend time at the rim, inhaling heavy doses of sulfur dioxide, but don’t dare do this now lest guests are asked to leave the park. It was also said that the Hawaiian goddess Pelehonuamea resides in the crater and because she is temperamental, this becomes the explanation for why the crater blows off some steam at times.
