Country music legend Dolly Parton and her husband, Carl Dean John, first met in 1964, falling immediately in love. In fact, they tied the knot less than two years later! While the adorable couple recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary, the media doesn’t cover them frequently. You see, John prefers to stay out of the limelight, often declining event tickets and interview offers.
While this might not seem like a match made in heaven, the couple says it works perfectly for them. “They say that opposites attract, and it’s true,” Parton told PEOPLE. “We’re completely opposite, but that’s what makes it fun. I never know what he’s gonna say or do. He’s always surprising me.”
