It looks like one of Netflix’s biggest risks has paid off! Billed as the world’s “first game show based around social media,” The Circle follows isolated contestants who can only communicate with one another via text message. Every so often, the contestants rank one another, with the lowest-rated player getting kicked out. Meanwhile, the winner gets $100,000!
Many thought The Circle would not work, claiming we already had enough social media in our lives. However, the Facebook-meets-Big-Brother game show has become a runaway hit for Netflix. Immediately after the first season premiered, the streaming giant renewed it for a second and third season. Then, following the second season’s conclusion, the company renewed it for a fourth and fifth season! Impressive!
