When Stranger Things hit it big, Netflix started looking at other ’80s properties. As Spike Lee remains one of the biggest directors in the world, his 1986 film, She’s Gotta Have It, seemed ripe to turn into a series. The show tells the same story as its namesake movie: it follows New York artist Nola Darling and her search for love.
While She’s Gotta Have It earned a second season in 2019, the streaming service declined to pick it up for a third season. But don’t worry – Lee and Netflix plan on having a fruitful future together. “Spike Lee is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and we’re thrilled he brought the series She’s Gotta Have It to Netflix,” said Ted Sarandos of Netflix. “While this is our last season, we’re very proud that it will be on our service for years to come.”
