An interesting mix of Mad Max and The Walking Dead, Daybreak seemed like a sure-fire hit for Netflix. Based on a comic book of the same name, the series tells the story of 17-year-old Canadian high schooler Josh Wheeler, who’s trying to survive an apocalyptic event that turns all adults into zombie-like creatures. Meanwhile, many of the teenagers have formed Mad Max-style gangs. What’s not to love?
Well, a lot, apparently. Panned by both critics and most viewers, Netflix cancelled Daybreak before the first season even ended. “We learned last week that Daybreak will not be returning for a second season. We’re so sorry we couldn’t share it with you sooner but also grateful that we got to hang out in these last few live tweet sessions with all of you,” showrunner Aron Eli Coleite tweeted.
