Auch wenn es der Name nicht gleich vermuten lassen wird, so spielte Fernando Clavijo dennoch für die Nationalmannschaft der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika. Der Rechtsverteidiger wurde am 23. Januar 1957 in Maldonado, Uruguay geboren, was auch die Herkunft seines Namens erklärt. Clavijo ist am 08. Februar im Alter von 62 Jahren verstorben.
Unsterblich hat er sich aber mit seinen drei Einsätzen bei der Weltmeisterschaft 1994 in seinem Wahlheimatland gemacht, denn so sicherte er sich einen Platz in unserer Liste. Bei seinem letzten Spiel, der 0:1 Niederlage gegen Brasilien im Achtelfinale war der Gold-Cup Sieger von 1991 bereits 37 Jahre und 162 Tage alt.
